The Blessings and curses of international companies
Whilst traveling I came across a familiar brand in the supermarket and thought that as far as I was from "home" i still can find consolation in the fact that if i need to find something to eat, I could probably gather it all up in a selection of Corporate giants, so much so that my shopping cart would look the same almost anywhere across the world.
This is somewhat sad that that is the case because it means that so many of the local alternatives have probably been priced out the market by the corporate interests that have developed the machinery to make the production process as efficient as possible. When one is traveling it is more and more difficult to experience the local culture when you have cultural giants like America pasting their culture on every country and using the financial power they have to remove as much of the unique qualities of each country to be subscribers to their modern capitalistic society and appeal to american tourists who have the money to spend
Essentially it is nice to have some familiarity overseas but it makes it more difficult to get an authentic experience all around the world as english and the american culture begin to infect the world over through financial incentives
